Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, is still mourning the loss of his mother, Mrs. Jane Morayo Balogun, which is evident in his latest collaborative song with Asake, ‘MMS.’
In his verse, Wizkid takes listeners on a melancholic journey, reflecting on how his mother’s death has profoundly affected him. He reveals that he “lost” himself after her passing but eventually found his purpose.
“You no fit run from who you are
Man, wetin go be, man, is cast in stone….
Why mama leave me, yeah, e no long
Lost myself and I found my purpose
Yeah, everyday, I know that I’m blessed…
Nothing man no face, vibe today
This kind thing, say na life we dey,” he sings.
Wizkid’s mother, Jane Morayo Balogun, passed away on August 18, 2023, in London. On her posthumous birthday, July 4th, Wizkid expressed how empty his life feels without her, emphasizing that he misses her every day and that his heart remains broken forever.
