Serie A: Roma go top after 2-1 victory against Fiorentina

by Admin

Roma climbed to the top of Serie A on Sunday after a 2-1 comeback win over Fiorentina, sending a strong message to Napoli and AC Milan in the title race.

Matias Soule and Bryan Cristante scored in the first half in Florence, helping Roma move three points clear of champions Milan and Inter, who had thrashed Cremonese the previous day.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side now sit on 15 points following their third consecutive league victory, despite falling behind to a stunning 14th-minute strike from Moise Kean.

Kean nearly doubled his tally with another powerful effort that struck the post in the 38th minute, shortly after Cristante’s header had given Roma the lead.

Fiorentina’s Roberto Piccoli came close to an equaliser when his volley hit the crossbar in the 74th minute, but the hosts remain without a win, sitting on just three points — one place above the relegation zone.

Napoli and Milan still have a chance to draw level with Roma later on Sunday. Napoli host struggling Genoa fresh from their 2-1 Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon, while Milan prepare for a major showdown against Juventus in Turin — their second big test in as many weeks.
