Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has criticised the popular phrase “I am a Chosen,” often chanted by members of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries. His comments come amidst social media discussions surrounding viral testimonies from the church.
In a Facebook post, Doyle described the phrase as “nonsensical,” arguing that it is not rooted in Christian doctrine. He stated, “The phrase ‘I am a Chosen,’ used by members of this sect, should not be associated with the Body of Christ.”
Doyle claimed that when members chant the phrase, their focus is not on Jesus but on their General Overseer. “The phrase makes no mention of Jesus. To suggest it glorifies our Savior is to mock our faith,” he added. He clarified that content creators using the phrase aren’t mocking the Church but the sect and its founder.
Actor IK Ogbonna recently urged the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to address the issue of “fake miracles” in churches. Other celebrities, including actress Kemi Lala Akindoju, have similarly criticised the church’s practices.
In response to the “I am a Chosen” phrase, CAN condemned a viral testimony in which a congregant claimed that “an angel” provided answers during an exam.
