Nearly 1.5m voted in advance municipal election in Finland

The Finnish municipal elections advance voting which began on May 26 ended yesterday June 8 with 1,470,107 votes recorded by the election body. The figure accounts for 33.0% of the electorates.

The last day of the early voting witnessed a large number of voters. A total of 258,183 people voted

According to the election statistics, there are 35,627 candidates running for the local election of which only 953 are people of foreign origin.

Finland’s eligible voters is 4,460,295 (Gentlemen 2,186,306, ladies 2,273,989)

Vantaa, the city with the highest number of people of immigrant background (22%) have recorded 53,222 votes, Espoo ( 19.1) 76,622 votes, Helsinki 203,666 votes, Turku  58,803 votes and Tampere 76,326 votes.

The election was supposed to hold on April 18 but it was postponed to June 13 because of the Covid-19 pandemic
