Over 90 people are dead after an explosion in Jigawa, Nigeria.

by Admin

At least 90 people have died following a petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Tuesday.

Mr. Shi’isu Adam, the Police Spokesperson in Jigawa, confirmed this to NAN on Wednesday. He also reported that 50 others were hospitalised with various injuries from the explosion.

The incident occurred around 11:30 PM when the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University, resulting in the explosion. The driver was en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe at the time.

Adam expressed concern that, despite police warnings to avoid accident scenes involving fuel tankers, people still gathered, leading to the high number of casualties. A mass burial for the victims is scheduled for 9 AM on Wednesday, and the injured are receiving treatment at Ringim General Hospital.
