Finnish police are intensifying their monitoring of heavy-duty vehicle traffic throughout the country this week. Traffic officers aim to inspect a total of 1,600-1,800 heavy-duty vehicles during the week.
According to Yle, monitoring will focus on the most obvious deficiencies identified during previous monitoring periods, such as compliance with driving and rest periods, load securing and vehicle conditions.
Commissioner Tuomo Kataijisto from the Southwest Finland Police said “In addition to trucks, the monitoring will extend to the driving and rest times of bus drivers and the use of phones while driving.”
The aim of the increased controls is to improve traffic safety and combat the gray economy and transport crime.
Same inspections took place in July 2020, about 1600 vehicles were inspected in Finland, out of which about 500 vehicles received remarks for deficiencies.
